The Boucher Collection

Generously donated by collector Larry Boucher in 2015, the museum now houses over 500 pieces of pottery with examples from every Pueblo in New Mexico, from Isleta all the way up to Taos. The collection also includes examples from other nations and locations, such as the Diné (Navajo) and vessels created by artists in Mexico. Most of this collection consists of wedding vases, a dual-spouted vase with a handle connecting the two spouts, meant to represent two lives being joined together during marriage. These vessels today are primarily made for sale rather than a ritual use, but Boucher appreciated how “the artful representation has evolved into a fine art form."
